There's so much to do at The LifeZone! Take a look at the engaging activities listed below. Classes and activities based on members likes, interests, desires, and dreams.
We gently encourage members to try varying activities to continue learning. Through these, our members build relationships, community interest & connection and quite possibly find a new lifelong hobby.
Members will select a book to read as a group together. Reading in a club will give members a chance to make connections between their own lives and the lives of characters they read about. This club will give them the opportunity to socialize, relax, learn, make deeper connections, and develop a personal leisure activity.
Members will have an opportunity to use various tools to record and express their daily highlights and develop ability to identify authentic self reflection. (tool examples: alpha smart, lap top, pencils paper, journals). This will help members to better communicate strengths, abilities, interests, and needs.
While learning how plants grow, caring for a garden, and enjoying the flowers and vegetables our members will form a sense of community that takes commitment and patience. The members will have the opportunity to work together, share interests and passions, develop skills, and use some of their products in recipes.
Morning meeting in which the members review daily plans, class choices, community events, themed activities. This group time will afford members the opportunity to discuss current events, praise one another for accomplishments/celebrations. Sharing will help connect members to each other’s emotions and the larger community; to help members truly understand what to say and what not to say, in various situations.
Everyone needs a hobby, as the old saying goes. Hobbies help develop our tastes and our passions in life – they can be as diverse as reading, writing, puzzles, games, scrapbooking, photography, and sewing to name but a few. New hobbies can develop skills that will help you enhance your proficiency, productivity and relaxation.
Members will participate in daily home life, personal and community care activities. This daily hands-on practice of rotating self selected activities, whether the member continues to live at home or moves out in the community they will need the ability to manage everyday tasks. Instruction and support will maximize their potential for purpose and self help.
Our members incorporate singing, movement, dancing, instruments, and exercise with in-house and local guests to build strength, imagination, and esteem. Music has been credited with stimulation of imagination, creativity, self expression, focus, and joy.
Through cooking members will learn, develop and carry out the many steps and benefits of cooking: building shopping lists from recipes, functional math skills with measurements, fine motor skills, visual motor, social skills, creativity, brain stimulation, healthy food awareness, cultural awareness.
Hygiene is typically thought of in terms of proper hand-washing, body washing, and facial cleanliness. Although these practices are essential to overall cleanliness and interrupting the spread of disease, other components of good hygiene consist of practicing good hygiene etiquette.
Members will select a movie that will be watched together, in partial portions, over several days.. We will talk about the movie’s major characters, locations,emotions, & plots at the end of each segment. When the movie has been completed, the movie will be “rated” by “TLZ movie reviewers”. Comparing clients ratings will encourage sharing. Parts of the movie soundtrack will be incorporated in Musical Movement class to tie the activities together.
Projects done by members will include various media, materials, location, themes. Project work will help with social skills, fine motor skills, self expression, and creative thinking and expression.
Walking, bowling, dancing, swimming, stretching, and balance activity will be built into every day fun and outings. Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improves mood, energy, and your ability to do everyday activities. Adults who sit less and do any amount of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity gain health benefits.
Members will select and participate in small group and/or individual varied puzzles (jigsaw, word, story, scavengers, mysteries, riddles). Doing and working puzzles reinforce connections between brain cells, can improve mental speed and is an especially effective way to improve short-term memory. Jigsaw puzzles improve your visual-spatial reasoning, flexibility, concentration, social collaboration, and fun.
Members will have opportunities and choices to work with fun and functional skill kits. These varied task sets will focus on a particular skill, like Assembly or Packaging at varying difficulty levels. Compact assortment of skill kits offer a variety of choice, and interest to help work on needed self help and hobby skills.
Special guests serve as great role models, in which our members are exposed to & can imagine themselves participating in different community organizations and hobbies.
Through Adventure Days & Community Activities members will be kept on their toes with these outings based on flexible predictability skills. Some instances, Members will research, help select, plan, and schedule outings based on their individual interests & expressed through other classes. Outings vary and are ongoing fun!
